Metrology, which is the science of measurement, plays a key role in industry, international trade and in everyday life. Accurate and reliable measurements are critical in assuring product quality, and in supporting environmental, health and safety issues.

The Quality Institute (QI) provides training and other technical solutions for industry, through the delivery of information and instructions on the requirements, systems, processes and methods described by local, regional and international standards.

The Bureau defines testing as the evaluation of goods sold in the retail marketplace. Testing can determine if products meet industry standards, along with identifying how a product will perform for the consumer or against a competitors’ products.

The Bureau of Standards Jamaica is responsible for facilitating the timely development, promulgation, promotion and implementation of standards for goods, services, processes and practices.
